Car Racks: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

There are many different kinds of car racks out there—some good, some bad, and some downright ugly. There is liable to be some disagreement as to which type car racks go where. Some prefer the functionality of roof cargo boxes, which ride majestically atop the car keeping all the cargo out of the interior for a smoother ride. Others feel these are too busy looking and that they bring a silly cosmetic feature to the car itself. Some feel that a trailer hitch install is the way to go, while others feel that the instability of a poor installation job can lead to some very ugly situations. While there is some truth and some fiction in every line of thought, it is ultimately up to you to determine which type car racks are the good, which are the bad, and which are the ugly. The following judgment criterial is recommended:

Good: Something that gets the job done

Remember the first and best function of a car rack. It must hold your valuables in place safely and securely in a manner that protects them, you, and anyone you may be coming into contact with on the road ways.

Bad: Something that attempts to do its job but with obvious setbacks

Not every car rack that works is one that you should own. Because while it may fulfill its basic function, installation difficulties can lead to damage to your car’s frame or paint job. It can also be unsightly and embarrassing when it comes to driving down the road.

Ugly: Doesn’t do its job and does more harm than good

A trailer hitch install, for example, that is poorly put in place could lead to an on-road detachment of your cargo, which presents a dangerous situation to everyone behind you and beside you. The chance for litigation is insurmountable. Best to avoid. And it’s also important to remember that if you don’t know what you’re doing, a good rack can quickly turn bad or ugly. So use safety first in all things, and you’ll never go wrong.
